Every bottle of our wines is an exciting journey with enthralling twists and turns. From the beginning, our focus is to encourage biodiversity in the vineyard, build soil health and unravel the divine potential of our century-old own rooted vineyards with its astonishing terroir and breathtaking landscapes. This care and attention begins in the vineyards, and goes on in the cellar where we craft low-intervention wines from millennia old autochthonous Armenian grape cultivars.
The vineyard is located in the village of Aghavnadzor in Vayots Dzor region. This is one of the oldest vineyard plots in the area with own-rooted vines planted more than 100 years ago. The elevation of the parcel is about 1450 meters, making this plot a true highland vineyard. This is not a classical vineyard training system with poles, trellises and wires like one usually sees in the most viticulture areas. The vineyard is planted in the old way with the bush vine training system and each vine is an individual organism living its own live for over a century. The area is rich in biodiversity and the vineyard plot includes various other bushes and trees creating a unique microclimate and terroir.
ARENI NOIR
The flagship red grape variety of Armenia and Vayots Dzor region in particular, Areni noir has an extraordinary ability to express the soil and microclimate in which it is growing resulting in a massive spectrum of wine styles. Areni noir is usually expressing genuine intense aromatics of ripe black currant, black cherry and cinnamon that can be beautifully complemented by elegant flavors of vanilla, tobacco and chocolate if the wines are aged in oak barrels. The vibrant acidity and silky texture of its tannins grant the wines made of Areni a tremendous potential for ageing.
KHATOUN KHARJI
One of the oldest white autochthonous grape varieties of Vayots Dzor region, Khatoun Kharji has an astonishing resistance to sever weather conditions and various pests. Its thick skin not only protects the berries but also serves as a reservoir for a spectrum of beautiful aromatic substances that can be revealed during the vinification process. It combines aromas of fresh cut grass, lime peel and white pepper with fragrant notes of white flowers and yellow fruits. Wines made of Khatoun kharji are intense, crisp and fresh with vivid acidity and surprisingly long aftertaste.
